In 1985 my interest in sailing began, so I followed a trainings to obtain the paper for the Swiss lake, this correspond to costal navigation level (12 miles). In 1989 I join the Cruising Club of Switzerland (CCS) and followed the course organise by the club and went through the examination to qualify for the high sea navigation licence (engine and sail). This course based of 3 parts, 1.knowledge of the boat (navigation, handling, meteo, law and medicine on board), 2 tide calculation, 3 working with the map (traditional) and GPS. The CCS is the organisation that control, under the supervision of the Swiss maritime authority, the training program that leads to the licence. Under qualified skipper the new candidate have to sail 2500 sea miles with a minimum of 1000 miles in tidal area usually Brittany, South coast of England, Ireland, obtains the seaworthy qualifications (organise and lead a crew). The next step is to follow a basic course on diesel engine, how to identify a problem, how to fix it, then we have to follow a 3 days radio operator course, including GMDSS, short and long range, finally with a first aide course certificate in the pocked we can apply for the famous licence. . |

In 2002 a was hired by a special rehabilitation institution to organise a 2 month navigation with no more than 2 stop over. The full contract included all the logistics, finding a boat, defining a navigation area and taking the responsibility to conduct the all aspect of the project, so we sailed on the first leg from Martinique to Halifax Nova-Scotia, then from Halifax to the Azores, then from the Azores to Cherbourg. In 2003 sailed in Channel Island in the spring then in may June to Slovenia and Croatia. This year I sailed (February - March) in the Capo Verde Archipelago and will be sailing from Cadiz (SP) to Lisbon (PT) between the 9 to the 25 of July with a boat from the Club. |
